Currently:

I am in Finland finalizing my masters study in Bioinformatics, Helsinki university of technology (MBI).

Work Experience:

• Biopython scripting (during summer 2010, Internship) : Protein sequence annotation (from UniProt) by writing python scripts.
• I have worked as an IT instructor for two years and half in Microlink IT college back in Ethiopia. I gave courses like basic computer networking, database design, datastructures and algorithm analysis using C++, system analysis and design.
• Webprogramming using PHP/ Mysql , mainly for an ecommerce company called Ahhanet (www.ahhanet.com), and also for other companies like Tangoaviation (www.tangoaviation.com). Unfortunately, these websites are not available anymore as the customers could no longer pay for hosting.I have links to samples of my work below.

Schools and Sample works:

• My Bsc in Information systems is from Addis Ababa university, the biggest and well known univeristy in Ethiopia. My graduation project was a web-based store management application for Ethiopian Electric power corporation. The project was well documented using UML.
• Another project I did with a partner is Darnet. Darnet is an installable, and customizable PHP/Mysql web package that a binary commission based MLM company can use. There are a lot of MLM companies that sell their products online and give commissions to their customers to promote their product and services. One popular commission scheme is the binary. Darnet uses this scheme and provides all the necessary reports on customers and sales. It is customizable in a sense that it allows its users to give names for the site and its database, choose reports from the available types, etc. It can also be upgraded to allow choice of themes, banner,etc.
• While in Finland, I have done simple applications for some purposes.....
  • FidiPro data repository (FDR): a web based data repository with an integrated web FTP client. It was done during my internship in the summer of 2010 in the FidiPro project 'Innovations for Intestinal Health' (professor Willem M. de Vos), University of Helsinki.
  • Rclean : a small site to help register customers that need their house cleaned. The site is still for demonstration
  • Babure : a bigger PHP/Mysql project that deals with train scheduling system. It allows search for train schedules. Some modules of the system are not complete yet. Click here to download it.
  • Babure: This is a C++ version of the train scheduling system above. It is just a sample using linked lists.

Passions:

• As a student in highschool, I had strong love for genetic studies in our biology sessions. I then, actually thought about pursuing genetic studies in areas like human height, and improvement of the Teff cereal. It now seems possible for me to play a part in such studies atleast from a bioinformatics point of view.


• Nothing can match my love for music. I have always been more than just a listener. I have experimented with music....I have sung, played guitar and Keyboard, and composed a couple of singles for other singers. Of all these, I have enjoyed studio music and composition. I must admit that I am not show material with instruments :).....But I am pretty good with compositions using Cubase sx and FL studio. I can say I am in love with the VST world.
